DigitalSports, the nation’s leading website for high school sports writers and athletes, and Vantage Learning, the world leader in K–12 education technologies, are proud to present the winners of the DS Reporter contest with college scholarships. This contest was designed to empower students to develop their writing skills and school spirit through real-world experience in sports journalism. The winners received college scholarships in addition to cash prizes for their school athletic departments.
“We are extremely proud to be presenting these students with college scholarships for their outstanding writing and reporting skills,” said Christopher Decker, Marketing Specialist of DigitalSports.com. “We consider these students, who have energized their schools and engaged their local communities, to be our greatest successes.”
Bryson Schmidt, the grand-prize winner from Ralph L. Fike High School in North Carolina, was awarded a $5,000 college scholarship for her outstanding reporting talents. Determined to pursue a career in the sports industry, Schmidt is excited about what her future holds.
“When I was younger, my dad always asked me if I would give him my autograph when I was working for ESPN one day,” said Schmidt. “I have so much pride in my sports knowledge, and being named the DigitalSports Reporter of the Year is the greatest honor. I plan to use my love of sports to major in sport management at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC.”
Tommy Bean of Stow-Munroe High School in Ohio finished second in the contest and was awarded a $2,000 college scholarship. Bean enjoys sports reporting as well as film editing, and he is looking forward to using the money to further his education.
“I was so happy and honored to receive second place in the DigitalSports Reporter Contest,” said the recent high school grad. “It definitely helped make my senior year of high school a blast, and I was able to build on the skills that I already had while also learning so many new skills. I plan on putting the money toward my college tuition at either Kent State University in Ohio or Full Sail University in Florida.”
Nick Wagner, a recent graduate of Ada-Borup High School in Minnesota, was awarded the third-place prize of $1,000.
